My name is Jenny Snyder, and I am a sophomore studying Nutrition & Dietetics. A hobby that I really enjoy is reading–I try to get as much in as I can during the busy semester! One thing that drew me to nutrition is food insecurity. Working with SCEC has allowed me to get in contact with awesome organizations such as food pantries. I love that volunteering provides the opportunity to do meaningful and impactful things in communities. I am very grateful that SCEC helps me tie my personal and professional goals together!
My name is Haliyat Oshodi and I’m a senior with a major in Public Health and a minor in Africana Studies. I joined SCEC because I want to be more civically engaged with the communities I advocate for. I also want to show the connection between civic engagement and public health and how important it is to intersect the two. In my free time, I like to crochet, sleep, and travel!
Hi everyone, my name is Julianna and I am currently a junior. I am studying marketing and supply chain here at Pitt. I joined SCEC because I wanted to work with like-minded individuals who want to get involved and make an impact. This is my first year on SCEC and I'm ready to get to work!
My name is Emilia Morris and I am a sophomore Urban Studies major. I am a program coordinator with the SCEC, and some of my hobbies include running, hiking, and making crafts. What drove me to work for SCEC is my interest in researching how community engagement affects sustainable development. SCEC has given me the opportunity to explore the vast nonprofit organizations of Pittsburgh, and create events that Pitt students can participate in. My hope is to foster long-lasting community partnerships between Pitt and the surrounding communities.
Hello! My name is Shanthi Bhaskar (she/her) and I am a sophomore majoring in Computational Biology and minoring in Economics, with a certificate in Conceptual Foundations of Medicine. I joined SCEC because I believe that active civic engagement is a powerful way to address social issues and create meaningful change. I hope to collaborate with like-minded peers and leverage our collective efforts to drive initiatives that promote civic awareness and community involvement while highlighting our social responsibilities amongst the students on campus as well as in the broader Pittsburgh area.
Hey everyone! My name is Simon Wang - I’m a junior majoring in economics and psychology. I joined SCEC because my experiences serving the community shaped my interest in reducing economic inequality and poverty, and I want to empower others to have the same opportunities here in Pittsburgh. As a member of SCEC, I’m hoping to increase the visibility of this issue by working with partners to expand volunteer opportunities and get more students out into the surrounding community beyond Oakland. This is my first year at SCEC, and I look forward to working with the team to help fellow students make a difference in the community.
Hi! My name is Sarah Siddiqui (she/her), and I am a junior majoring in Sociology at Pitt. I joined SCEC because I am very passionate about civic engagement, and I want to work to promote it on campus. This is my second year on SCEC, and I am so excited to work with the rest of the team this year.
Raissa is a sophomore majoring in Neuroscience. She is excited to be a part of SCEC and looks forward to encouraging students to be involved in the Pittsburgh community through service.
