PittVotes

PittVotes is a student-led initiative at the University of Pittsburgh, supported by the Office of PittServes. We provide non-partisan voter education and registration resources to the Pitt community, with the goal of fostering lifelong participation in the democratic process.

Voting Registration Information

As a college student, you can register to vote at either your college address OR your home address. Remember that every time you change your address (e.g. dorm room change, move apartments, etc.), you must update your voter registration with your new address.

PA Voter Registration Guidelines

PA 2026 Primary Election

  • The 2026 PA Primary Election will be held on May 19, 2026 
    • The deadline to register to vote in the 2026 PA Primary Election is May 4th, 2026. 
    • The deadline to request a mail-in or absentee ballot for the 2026 PA Primary Election is May 12, 2026. 
  • Pennsylvania has a closed primary system. This means that in order to be eligible to vote in the PA Primary Election, you must be registered as a Republican or as a Democrat. Voters registered with a third party or no party affiliation are not eligible to vote for candidates in the Primary. 

PA 2026 General Election

  • The 2026 PA General Election will be held on November 3rd, 2026 
    • The deadline to register to vote in the 2026 PA General Election is October 19th, 2026 
    • The deadline to request a mail-in or absentee ballot for the 2026 PA General Election is October 27th, 2026

General Voter Registration Guidelines

  • You must be a resident of PA for at least 30 days prior to an election to register to vote in the state of Pennsylvania.  
  • To register in PA, you can apply online, or download a registration form and mail it in or drop it off at your county election office at least 15 days before the next election.  
  • You can also register to vote by attending any PittVotes event!

Election Information

Voting In-Person in PA

  • Find your polling place in PA here: Polling Place Information 
  • For polling locations corresponding with Pitt residence halls and nearby campus housing, see PittVotes’ living resource, here: Polling Locations 2025 
  • ID requirements: If you are voting for the first time at a new polling place, you will be required to show a valid form of ID. Options for valid photo ID include: 
    • Pennsylvania driver’s license or PennDOT ID card 
    • ID issued by any Commonwealth agency 
    • ID issued by the U.S. Government 
    • U.S. passport 
    • U.S. Armed Forces ID 
    • Student ID 
    • Employee ID 
  • If you do not have a photo ID, you can use an approved non-photo ID that includes your name and address. Approved forms of non-photo ID are: 
    • Confirmation or voter registration card issued by your county elections office 
    • Non-photo ID issued by the Commonwealth 
    • Non-photo ID issued by the federal government 
    • Firearm permit 
    • Current utility bill 
    • Current bank statement 
    • Current paycheck 
    • Government check 
  • Polling locations are open from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. If you are in line to vote by 8 p.m. - stay in line- you can vote!
