Taro (he/him) is a life long Pittsburgher and holds a PsyD in Counseling Psychology from Chatham University and a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh. Taro utilizes an integrative approach blending relational approaches with skill building through cognitive behavioral approaches to help student’s build resiliency. Taro informs his practices through mindfulness-based practices, cognitive behavioral approaches (e.g. CBT, DBT, ACT) while aiming to provide socially just care. Taro’s professional interests include culturally humble practices, trauma-focused treatment, AAPI mental health, group therapy and the experiences of BIPOC-identifying therapists. Taro completed his dissertation utilizing a grounded theory methodology to examine the experiences of BIPOC-identifying group therapists to better inform the evolving standards of training for group therapy. Taro has presented his dissertation at the American Psychological Association Conference and the National Multicultural Conference and Summit. Outside of work, Taro enjoys spending time with friends and family, cooking and eating delicious food, biking, and playing board games and video games.
