MSG Matthew Young was born in Nashua, NH. He joined the Army on 15 October 2003 and went to One Stop Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Benning, GA as an Infantryman. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the 1-508th Infantry (Airborne) in February 2004 which eventually was re-assigned as the 1-503rd Infantry Airborne as part of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team in Caserma Ederle, Italy. He was assigned as a Grenadier, M249 SAW Gunner, Machine Gunner, Team Leader and Squad Leader. MSG Young deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) VI in 2005, OEF VIII in 2007 and OEF X in 2009 during his assignment to the 173rd Airborne Brigade. MSG Young was then assigned as a Ranger Instructor at the 4th Ranger Training Battalion at Fort Benning, Georgia in February 2011. He also performed the duty of the Battalion Master Breacher. MSG Young was reassigned to the 1-501st Infantry (Airborne) as part of the 4th Brigade, 25th Infantry (Airborne) at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, AK in August 2014 as a Platoon Sergeant. MSG was reassigned to Fort Hood, TX in September 2017 and served as a First Sergeant in both 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment and 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment as part of the 1St Armored Bridge Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. He deployed to Poland in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve in May 2018. He was reassigned to the Three Rivers Battalion, 2nd Brigade in August 2020 and is currently serving as the Senior Military Science Instructor.
