CPT Kara L. Moyer was born and raised in the countryside of Newark, Ohio. She is an Assistant Professor of Military Science (AMPS) for the University of Pittsburgh, Three Rivers Battalion, Army ROTC Program. CPT Moyer, first enlisted into the Pennsylvania Army National Guard (PAARNG) on 17 October 2012. After completing Basic Training in July 2013 at Fort Jackson, SC, she contracted with the Three Rivers Battalion in August 2013 and became a Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) Cadet with the Co C (MED), 128th Brigade Support Battalion (BSB). She attended the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, where she received her degree of Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences as well as commissioning as a Second Lieutenant with the Three Rivers Battalion in April 2016!
During her first official semester as a contracted Cadet, CPT Moyer was selected to participate in an international leadership program offered through ROTC called Cultural Understanding ad Leadership Program; where she got to travel to Bulgaria for a month-long immersion experience the following summer. Throughout her time as a Cadet, she volunteered countless hours in helping with recruiting for the program through local events in Greensburg, PA. After commissioning, she was assigned to Co C (MED), 128th BSB as their Evacuation Platoon Leader. During her 4 years with Co C (MED), CPT Moyer served as the Evacuation Platoon Leader and the Platoon Leader for the Headquarters Section before accepting a position as the Medical Operations Officers with 2nd Brigade Combat Team (2IBCT) 28th Infantry Division (28th ID). During her transition between units, she also acted as the Officer in Charge (OIC) for Task Force (TF) Duquesne for the Medical section during May 2020 thru February 2021. She then volunteered to deploy with the 108th Medical Company Area Support (MCAS) to Poland from February 2021 until their return in December 2021. During her deployment with the 108th MCAS she served as their Executive Officer, Headquarters Section Leader, and the Liaison Officer to the Brigade/Division. She now holds an Active Guard Reserve (AGR) position with the PAARNG.
CPT Moyer military education includes the AMEDD Basic Officer Leadership Course (AMEDD BOLC- 70B), Army Health Services Plans, Operations, Intelligence, Security, and Training Officer (AMEDD 70H), and Captains Career Course (CCC). She has also attended a variety of Army Medical conferences, the latest being; Company and Field Grade Officer Leadership Development (C-FGOLD) which is hosted every summer in San Antonio, TX. CPT Moyers’ awards include the Army Commendation Medal with 2 OLC.
CPT Moyer is married to Matthew Moyer and together have a cat named Mufasa and a dog named Scar.
