Bernadette Smith, LPC

Bernadette is a licensed professional counselor with over a decade of experience in a variety of mental health settings. She utilizes an integrated clinical approach, specifically informed by person-centered, interpersonal and dialectical behavior therapy. Bernadette's clinical interests include anxiety, depression, identity development, crisis intervention, self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, and substance use. In addition to providing clinical care, Bernadette currently serves as the Associate Director of Outreach. Within this role, Bernadette works to develop and strengthen partnerships with campus and community partners to support student emotional well-being through a holistic and culturally informed lens. She believes a culture of care is critical to creating an environment in which students can thrive; she co-developed and co-faciliates the Mental Health Champion Certificate Program to increase awareness and support on campus. Bernadette was also instrumental in the development of Thrive @ Pitt, a university-wide initiative aimed at educating students on the topic of well-being while connecting them to resources.
