Free Museum Visits

Pitt Arts' Museum Visits are free only for undergraduate, graduate and professional students from the Pittsburgh campus with a valid Pitt student ID. All others must pay admission costs set by the participating museums. 

Free Museum Visits are suspended during the Summer and resume in late August for the Fall and Spring Semesters. Please, review the safety protocols and admissions policies of the Free Museum Visits Partners before visiting their establishments.

Please note that group visits and tours must be arranged in advance. In addition, please check with your department prior to considering a tour that they are indeed willing to reimburse Pitt Arts for docent-led and other group visits. 

Participating Museums

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens 

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is open Saturday – Thursday 9:30 AM – 5 PM and Friday 9:30 AM – 10 PM. Pitt Students must present their valid Pittsburgh Campus Student ID to gain free admission.

Mattress Factory 

The Mattress Factory is open Thursday – Sunday, 11 AM – 6 PM and Wednesday, 11 AM – 8 PM. Closed Monday and Tuesday. Occasionally the Mattress Factory closes early to accommodate private events. Be sure to check their website when planning your visit.

Information on reserving tickets in advance. You are required to present your valid Pittsburgh Campus ID to receive your free admission. Backpacks are allowed, as are pencils, notebooks and sketchbooks. 

Senator John Heinz History Center and Fort Pitt Museum 

The Senator John Heinz History Center and Fort Pitt Museum are open daily 10 AM – 5 PM. Pitt Students must present their valid Pittsburgh Campus Student ID to gain free admission. 

Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum 

Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum is open Monday – Saturday 10 AM – 4 PM. Closed Sunday. Pitt Students must present their valid Pittsburgh Campus Student ID to gain free admission. 

Andy Warhol Museum 

The Andy Warhol Museum is open to the public Wednesday – Thursday, Saturday – Monday 10:00 AM – 5 PM and Friday 10:00 AM – 10 PM. Closed Tuesday. Pitt Students must present their valid Pittsburgh campus ID upon arrival to gain free admission.  

Please Note Upcoming Special Hours: The museum will be closed on Saturday, April 29, due to heavy traffic on the North Shore. The museum will open at 12 p.m. on May 7, due to the Pittsburgh Marathon. 

Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History 

The Carnegie Museum of Art and Natural History are open Monday, Wednesday, Friday – Sunday, 10 AM –5 PM and Thursday 10 AM – 8 PM. Closed Tuesday. Pitt Students may reserve their advanced timed tickets through either https://carnegiemnh.org/buy-tickets/ or https://cmoa.org/visit/. Either site will gain admission to both museums. When the students visit the website, they should select the student rate.  When they go to checkout, they will enter the promo code PITTSTUDENT and it will not charge them for the ticket. Students must present their valid Pittsburgh campus ID at the museums to access their free admission. In the galleries, nothing is permitted to be carried on one’s back, including backpacks, drawstring bags, and purses. Please leave umbrellas, briefcases, backpacks, and large bags at home. Only pencils, paper, notebooks and sketchbooks are permitted in the galleries; please do not bring pens, paints, or inks. 

Carnegie Science Center 

The Carnegie Science Center is Wednesday – Monday, 10 am – 5 PM.  Closed Tuesday. Pitt Students may reserve their advanced timed tickets by calling 412-237-3400 and speaking with a Visitor Service Representative. Students must present their valid Pittsburgh campus ID when the arrive at the Science Center to gain free admission. All tickets offered will be for timed entry every 30 minutes.
